Restoration Works
Help Please
An easy, immediate way
to help by depositing with the Anglican
Development Fund: you support
St John’s and receive a good interest rate. We need
$138,032
more on deposit with ADF. Our loan of $368,500 to finish
the
hall
refurbishment and continue with the Church Tower restoration is backed
by deposits
from St John’s and its parishioners totalling
$267,318 but
to get the best interest rate from ADF we need to
increase this to $405,350
(110% of our loan).

Church
Restoration
New cut and carved stones ready for installation
New
upper string course stones
New
Sill stones ready for setting in place
Work is progressing well on the repair of the tower East
and
South
faces. Loose flaking stone has been chipped off and
repointing
commenced completed. New stone is being laid
as required. The concrete parapet has crumbled due to rusting
of
the reinforcing and South and East facing sides have now been
repaired. Maintenance will be
carried
out on the lead light windows while the scaffold is in place.
The repair work will be
completed
in November 2006 at a cost of $280,000. If funding can be
arranged, the scaffold will be purchased and sold when the repairs to
the whole of the stonework are complete. The work is ahead of
schedule.
Complete repair of the church building will take some
years to complete.
Restoration of Stained Glass Windows
Two of the stained glass windows will be restored in 2006/7
and
protective screens will be replaced on others.
