Finance & Vestry

Important Fundraising News: At Vestry on Wednesday night, 18 July 2007, it was decided to reschedule the date of the Fair / Fete and hold it next May, 2008. Margaret Garing is prepared to be the co-ordinator. The plan is to achieve another grand result, so preparation will begin shortly. Potting and replanting of garden items can still continue, ready for sale next autumn. More details later.

As an alternative to the fair it was decided to hold a raffle in September this year. Several excellent prizes have already been donated, and more would be appreciated if offered. Contact Margaret Garing or Max Salveson with your offers.

NEXT VESTRY MEETING  8.00 p.m. Wednesday 17th October 2007.

St John’s Foundation: Following the inaugural meeting and election of committee David Richards was chosen as Chairman of the Board.  Approval by the Australian Taxation Office is expected shortly.  The Foundation is well under way with initial funds of $100,000.

Other current matters

Hall Manager vacancy. Naming rooms. Repairs to the ‘Angel window’. Parishioners who deal with children in the Parish. Anglican Development Fund (ADF). Further development of Saint John’s outreach program. Air conditioning of the smaller rooms of the St John’s Community Hall.

Focus of Vestry meetings

Future meetings will emphasise the identification and development of the larger issues of St John’s Christian mission both within the congregation and the community.

FUND RAISING The present parish budget for day to day mission, operations and stipend, is structured around the need for significant fund raising events, largely because of the continuing shortfall in pledged giving income. The bonus is their contribution to the lively social life of the parish. At present a tenth of fund raising proceeds are given to outreach projects. The Vestry is keen for this proportion to expand.

RESTORATION FUND

Large expenditure will be necessary over the next several years to carry out extensive repairs to the sandstone cladding of the church building.  Donations to St. John's Church Building Restoration Fund are TAX DEDUCTIBLE.  This is made possible by the fund being under the auspices of the National Trust.  If you would like to make a donation, please contact the Vicar by telephone (03) 9571 6616 or email vicar@stjohnseastmalvern.org.au for more information.
